Everything you need to know about House Call Doctor

House Call Doctor’s home doctor service might remind you of the traditional home doctors who would visit their patients after hours. We are committed to making sure patients in Queensland and Northern New South Wales receive the medical care they need, whenever they need it.
Our home doctors will bulk bill if you have a Medicare or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card, no matter what time you make your booking.

Who are we?
House Call Doctor works hard to relieve the pressure put on local emergency rooms by providing medical attention to patients in the comfort of their own home. We see most of our patients within three hours of them making a booking.
Our after-hours home doctors are here to visit you when regular GPs and medical centres have closed for the day (or weekend). You can book an appointment at the following times:
Monday-Friday
6pm to 8am
Saturday
After 12pm
Sundays and Public Holidays
24 hours
We only ask the necessary questions when you book so you can be treated as quickly as possible. When you book, we’ll need to know:
  • Your full name and date of birth
  • Your Medicare card or DVA number (if the patient is not eligible for bulk billing, we will require credit card details)
  • Your address and contact details
  • Your regular GP or clinic, and
  • Any symptoms you are experiencing.

Our doctors
Our home doctors are not intended to replace your normal GP. The House Call Doctor service can help you when you are sick or injured, when your regular GP is closed. Once you have been treated, the home doctor will prepare a clinical report for your GP to ensure they are up to date on your healthcare needs.
Our home doctors are fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA), as required by the Australian Medical Board. Our service operates to the standards of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

When you should book
Deciding whether you should visit an emergency room or see a doctor is hard, especially if your regular doctor isn’t available. If your condition is life threatening, or if you are having chest pains or difficulty breathing, please dial 000 and request an ambulance.
If your condition requires immediate medical attention or is severe, visit your nearest emergency room.
A home doctor can provide the appropriate treatment for more moderate afflictions. This can include:
  • Physical injuries, like sprains and strains
  • Fever
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Gastro
  • Common cold.
